  • Australian coverage of Nation's Gun Show

    in Australia, gun show

Australia's The Age has an article about last weekend's The Nation's Gun Show in Chantilly. It's not terrible.

There's a funny exchange with Dale Blankenship from Dale's Guns in Powhatan:

At the next stall down, Dale Blenkenship [sic] of Dales [sic] Guns tells me the SIG Sauer semi-automatic pistol I am admiring will cost $US350, but he's disappointed when he hears I am from over the border in Maryland, because he can't sell to me.

(Actually, if Dale is like most Virginians, he may have just been disappointed that he had to talk with someone from Maryland.)

  • Big show this weekend

    in gun show

I just heard an ad on Limbaugh for this weekend's Dixie Classic show at the Showplace on Mechanicsville Turnpike. I didn't spend as much time as I wanted at The Nation's Gun Show in Chantilly last month; I was there with a friend and we were rushed to meet another friend for dinner. So I really want to dig in and spend a few hours walking the aisles this weekend. It should be very interesting!

  • Dixie Classic Starts Tomorrow

    in gun show

It's been a long, gun-show-less summer but we're about to see some relief. The Dixie Classic starts tomorrow at 9am at the Showplace, and I can hardly wait.

It's $8 at the door and you can get $1 off with this coupon.

I'm planning to get there early to stock up on some ammo, and I will be checking out home defense shotguns in the expectation of buying one later this year. I'm also looking forward to seeing what used stock Dark Sun Surplus has on hand.

  • Doswell Gun Show

    in Doswell, gun show

OK, I checked the calendar at Southeastern Guns & Knives' site and this weekend's Doswell show is still listed.

SGK's gun show is hosted at the Farm Bureau Center at Meadow Event Park in Doswell, VA - a venue far superior to others in the Richmond area. Located next to King's Dominion, the show has struggled to draw an audience out from Richmond and the show calendar was trimmed late last year.

Bottom line, if you dread going to the Dixie Classic because the Showplace is a crowded dump, you will love SGK's Doswell show. It's a large, well-ventilated, well-lit, high-ceilinged, new building with wide aisles between tables and plenty of parking.

Update: "Disaster" is probably not too strong a word for the show's commercial yield. Two dealers I spoke with were stunned at how few people showed up, and how few of those people were there to spend money. It's hard to see how SGK can keep running the show if it doesn't draw a crowd.

  • Doswell Gun Show is this weekend

    in gun show

I'm really excited about the Southeastern Guns & Knives (SKG) gun show in Doswell this weekend. I really like the Meadow Event Park location - it's a vastly superior venue to the Showplace in Richmond, with a high ceiling, better ventilation, better lighting and wider aisles between the tables.

Here's SGK's summary of the event:

The SGK Gun Show this weeked in Doswell, Va., is just north of Richmond, at the Kings Dominion exit, the gun show will be held in the Farm Bureau Center at Meadow Event Park. The gun show will feature 275 tables, an indoor laser tag arena and indoor virtual hunting and skeet shooting as well as a non-lethal self defense seminar. So Bring the whole family.

Included with admission is free access to our indoor laser tag area and virtual hunting and skeet games. Whether your a child, in your twenties, thirties, or older, you'll enjoy all day access to our indoor laser tag arena and virtual hunting and shooting games with admission to the show. So come out and test your tactical combat skills in our laser tag arena or sharpen your shooting skills with our virtual hunting and skeet shooting games. Its all included in the price of admission.

Also, at 2:00 p.m. daily, we will feature the following seminar:
NON LETHAL SELF DEFENSE FOR THE CONCERNED CITIZEN

  • First Gun Show

in Dixie Classic, gun show, Mike Ward, Richmond

I missed Mike Ward's account of his first gun show, posted at Richmond.com a few weeks ago. It's an amusing account, if only because Ward went into the show with such trepidation, but seems to have actually enjoyed himself. He explains the process which led him to consider purchasing a firearm:
