  • 60 Minutes Gun Story

in 60 Minutes, media bias, VCDL

Here's the 60 Minutes story from April, where the crooked little vermin at CBS News committed multiple felonies by paying an anti-gun activist to purchase a large number of firearms as a straw buyer.

  • Background Check Delays

    in background checks, Times-Dispatch, VCDL

I hadn't heard anything about this before reading the article in today's Times-Dispatch, but evidently layoffs at the State Police have slowed down background checks on firearms purchases. Checks that formerly took just a few minutes now can take much longer, up to several hours.

    The Times-Dispatch article says:

Technicians now run the purchaser's information through 13 different databases. If one of the databases hits on a name, the application is automatically given what is called a "pending status" for the technician to do further research. That is where the delays are piling up.

It seems unlikely to me that the initial process is manual. For most purchasers, those 13 databases could be checked by an automated process requiring no human intervention. Only a small percentage of gun buys should require a human being to check the results. If I had to hazard a guess, it would be that the Virginia State Police is deliberately slowing down processing to draw attention to its budget shortfalls.

The VCDL is noisy and influential. A minor irritation to it could yield substantial money, so it's worth trying, right? This issue is probably nothing but bullshit.

VCDL will have a membership meeting at the Richmond main library facility on Wednesday, June 24, at 7 PM. Thanks to Roy B. Scherer for having the meeting room appropriated.

We will have a special guest speaker: talk show personality Doc Thompson of WRVA! Doc spoke at Lobby Day and is a strong supporter for our right to keep and bear arms.

After Doc speaks, I will cover the various things that are cooking in Virginia and on Capitol Hill.

    LET'S PACK THE ROOM!

The library is at 101 E. Franklin street (between 1st and 2nd streets). The meeting will be in the Auditorium annex.

There is a parking deck on 2nd street, but there is plenty of parking on the surrounding streets at that hour.

After the meeting, we will go to a local restaurant for continued fellowship. If you plan on carrying at the restaurant, be prepared to open carry as most restaurants in the area serve alcohol.
