New York's Mayor Bloomberg is exploiting a recent shooting in Times Square to once again hassle Virginia about its gun laws.
The incident occurred on Thursday morning, when an unlicensed vendor began shooting at cops after one asked to see his permit. In short order the shooter was killed by police.
The unlicensed vendor was not very competent with his weapon, according to the New York Post:
When scam artist Raymond "Ready" Martinez held the MAC-10-style gun parallel to the ground, it caused the ejecting shells to "stovepipe," or get caught vertically in the chamber, the sources said. The gun is designed to be fired only in a vertical position.
So the gangsta-influenced Martinez was only able to squeeze of two shots before the gun jammed, and the NYPD finished him off before he could clear it and resume firing. No one but Martinez was injured.
The gun he used, a MAC-10 knock-off manufactured by Masterpiece Arms, usually sells for $400-$500. It was purchased from Dale's Guns in Powhatan in October, but then stolen from a car in Richmond a few weeks later. Bloomberg is making an issue of Martinez having in his possession several business cards from local Richmond guns dealers, but he has not provided any evidence to indicate that those dealers did anything wrong.
The Post is covering the story a lot more honestly than some of the other New York papers. Here's the latest.
